Rainbow Broadband Connects 60K Fans at Global Citizen Festival in Central Park

Making Central Park’s Great Lawn Wi-Fi friendly may be the biggest bandwidth challenge in New York City – fortunately, the Global Citizen Festival was ready.

Their solution for connecting over 60,000 concertgoers to the world was Rainbow Broadband, whose experience in powering NYC events allowed Global Citizen’s organizers to overcome the technical obstacles that come with big shows held in Central Park.

Rainbow Broadband’s carrier class fixed wireless network is made specifically for the unique demands of NYC events, buildings and businesses. Rainbow Broadband used their network know-how to supply a massive 2 Gbps connection supporting the festival’s infrastructure and a crowd sharing pictures, video and socially conscious messages throughout the day.

Headliners at Global Citizen 2015 included Beyoncé, Pearl Jam, Ed Sheeran, and Coldplay. Also appearing were Sting, Bono, Michelle Obama, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., and top government officials from Norway, Malta, Sweden, and Luxembourg. Corporate executives from Virgin, Comcast, Google, Microsoft, and Unilever were all on hand.

“Every year, the world’s eyes are on Central Park for the Global Citizen Festival,” says Russ Hamm, Founder and President of Rainbow Broadband. “Global leaders and internationally acclaimed artists are present, urging the 60,000+ attendees to action on key issues via social media -- there can be zero interruptions to the Internet connection.

“Delivering this much symmetrical bandwidth – 2 Gbps -- into the heart of Central Park made this one of the most challenging events Rainbow Broadband has ever taken on,” Hamm continues. “Our service to Global Citizen was seamless and uninterrupted throughout the day, which was key to helping the festival’s organizers accomplish their goals.”

In over 10 years of proven expertise supplying New York City events with customized connectivity solutions, Rainbow Broadband has supported global brands including Google, Microsoft, HP, Samsung, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and many more.

Rainbow Broadband frequently creates networks that support thousands of people in 48 hours or less. Rainbow Broadband can customize services to each event’s unique specifications, providing multiple Wi-Fi networks and passwords, separate VLANs, and hard lines with specific bandwidth profiles for live streaming.
